Rihanna Concert!

Better picture for today :P

Mum and I at the Pavilhão Altlantico

Apologies, but this is the best picture I got of Rihanna, we were pretty far away from the stage.

Ello! Liv here again =D

For once, Mum and I had quite an eventful weekend; we went to Lisbon to see Rihanna in concert last Saturday night. I'm not the biggest fan of Rihanna, and neither is Mum, but.... wow. O.O That was one hell of a concert!! Firstly, we were expecting a local portuguese band as a supporting act (which are never much good) but to our surprise, Calvin Harris, the DJ, came out and got the crowd buzzing. It was really odd to see him, this little silhouette jumping up and down and clapping his hands, in the middle of a hypnotic light show - mesmerising.

Rihanna sounds amazing live and had the whole crowd going. The atmosphere was incredible - the portuguese really do know how to rock a concert. Rihanna even said herself that she was 'really shocked at your energy. I didn't know what to expect. You definitely topped the energy of the entire tour Portugal!'

Even though I'm convinced she said this at every show during the tour, I definitely believe this one to be true. Of all the concerts I've been to, the ones in Portugal had the most lively atmosphere and audience participation by far. So even though  London is, apparently, the concert capital of the world, Lisbon is a close second! ;)

Friday Frockday

Hello faithful anonymous followers of the blog! I'm Liv, daughter of the frump. As awful as I look in the picture above, in my defense, there is no use in really wearing my finest or doing my hair since, as you can see, Max has been all over me recently.

I'd never met Max before I arrived on Wednesday... and even though the other two bounced around me with a 'welcome home' enthusiasm, Max was still terrified of me, and barked at me relentlessly. I didn't flinch but I must admit, it's quite unnerving having a big, strong German Shepherd lunging at me, ready to bite my head off. It was part of my terms and conditions of coming here for Christmas that I leave with my face and limbs still in tact, so Mum put the muzzle on him.

I had to gain his trust. We decided the best way of doing this was by feeding him chicken through the sides of the muzzle, so he associates me with good things. This worked well... very well... perhaps too well. Because now, not only does he always stare at my hands just in case I have more treats to give, but he's become my shadow! He follows me everywhere and sleeps outside my bedroom. I can honestly say that Max would of made a better bodyguard to Whitney than that Kevin Costner bloke!

Overall, coming back to Alcobaça felt strange. I've moved houses so many times, it's hard to decide where you're most comfortable. But being here, with my Mum and my dogs and my fire and my biscuits, I can't really think of a better place to spend Christmas - with my family. So my hat may be elsewhere, but when it comes down to it, home is where your Mum is. =)

Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year to all!

Friday Frockday

...and I'm wearing jeans cos it's too cold to wear a frock!  Infact, it's too cold even to take a pic outside so here's your first glimpse of my messy office.  I have been busy this week working and also getting Liv's room ready for her imminent arrival next week.  Since returning to the UK, her room has been the dumping ground for all the things I don't want to trip over during the day - piles of ironing, shoes galore, dog beds, the vacuum cleaner - you name it.  So now I have to sort out the mess and it aint easy.  Still, I'm looking forward to Liv's company next week - let's hope the dogs behave nicely x

Friday Frockday

...and as you can see I'm wearing jeans!  I apologise to my lovely anonymous follower for not blogging this week.  I really can't blame the weather as it's been glorious for the most part.  I guess it was a touch of the 'can't be bothereds'!

Needless to say I'm very happy 'Dr' Murray was handed down the full 4yrs.  It's still pitiful for taking a life, especially as he'll probably only serve 2yrs, but it was the best we could hope for.  Perhaps he now realises that arrogance and believing you're above the law doesn't pay!

Have a good weekend. Not sure what I'm up to ;o)

What national strike?

Apparently there's a national general strike here today in Portugal and I didn't even notice! That's how much 'in my own world' I am!  Good job Myrvyn told me or I'd have wasted my time going to the Post Office.  I can hear kids playing on the street outside so obviously the schools are shut too.  Lucky for them it's a nice sunny day!

Goodbye Tofu - Hello Seitan!

I've discovered seitan.  It's another meat substitute for vegans/vegetarians and it's made from the protein part of wheat or something.  Apparently it's sometimes called 'wheat meat'.  It's got a texture that's very similar to meat and it doesn't need any of that tiresome pressing nonsense you have to do with tofu!  So I'm sold!

Today was actually really warm and dry.  Took the dogs out for a walk at lunch time and I had to strip off when I got back because it was so hot!  So the clothes I'm wearing in the pic, are not the clothes I was wearing by the end of the day ;o)
